Supported Employment
Community Employment Services
Community Employment Services offers individuals the opportunity to work in the community while receiving support and supervision from staff. These services include customized job development, individualized job placement, and on-going long term support. Prior to employment, individuals seeking community jobs are asked to participate in the Job Skills Workshop led by CES staff which covers the interview process, workplace conduct, problem-solving, and much more.
CES develops individual community jobs for consumers in a variety of businesses including (but not restricted to) hospitals, grocery stores, restaurants, retail stores, schools, hotels, and the City of Savannah. All individuals in CES make minimum wage or better and are placed with the hope of long-tem employment.
Recently, partnerships with large businesses allow for more individuals to participate in community work in greater numbers. Temcor, Oneida, St. Joseph's / Candler, Chatham County and the Savannah Sand Gnats partner with CCDS and open their doors to a greater number of individuals with developmental disabilities.
In the Fall of 2008, CES partnered with the Savannah Chatham Public Schools, the Georgia Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and St. Joseph's / Candler Hospital in developing Savannah's own Project. A small group of high school seniors with disabilities were chosen to participate in a year-long internship program with hopes of permanent job placement upon graduation. The local model is based upon (and overseen by) the original Project in Cincinnati, OH.
