Consumers served by CCDS are invited to participate in hiring committees, the CCDS
Board of Directors, the Health and Safety Committee, the
Employee Association,
People First of Savannah, and Partners in Policymaking (in Atlanta).

The Employee Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors
made up of CCDS consumers. The board includes members from Day Habilitation,
Organizational Employment, and Community Employment Services. Two non-voting staff
members are involved in an advisory capacity and to assist with event planning.
The Employee Association has three purposes:
- Raise money for and plan recreational activities and for emergency needs of CCDS
consumers;
- Serve the community through outreach projects; and
- Educate the community with tours, speaking engagements, and an increased visibility
in the area.
Employee Association, Inc. board members meet every pay day at CCDS. The board
determines how to best use the money raised from the Canteen (snack bar) sales.
They also approve consumer loans, make purchases for the workshop, and use the
money for recreational activities throughout the year.
Consumers are elected to the council as general members by election each year.
Officers are elected each year by the existing council.
Quarterly recreational activities in March, June, September, and December
include dinners, dances, cookouts, nights at the ballpark, and other events.
All CCDS consumers are invited to attend CCDS activities. Some community events
may include a small charge.

The Savannah Chapter of People First started in 1995.
Like the national organization, the group includes people with disabilities who
support change and assist people in making their own choices.
People First in Savannah is a unique voice. The group consists of individuals with
developmental disabilities and serves as a voice in the community for support,
change, and recognition of people with disabilities as people first.
The meeting is held on the third Wednesday of each month at CCDS. Elected officers
run the meetings and guest speakers discuss various topics.
